2019 was the Year of Return: A campaign for Ghana which commemorated the 400th Anniversary of the arrival of the first recorded enslaved Africans in Jamestown Virginia in 1619. The landmark campaign also celebrated the resilience of the African over the past 400 years and welcomed all people of African origin to return to Africa especially Ghana.
Well, this is 2021, two years after “The Year of Return” so we’re looking at Ghana and its new campaign of Beyond The Return”.
Ghana is a country with a rich culture, beautiful landscape, and many things to do and see.
In the Culture Report: “Culture is forever changing and reflecting what’s happening in the society and with its people. It can be born from the arts, music, food, and sometimes politics and strife.”
“I am a proud Charleston native with a passion for the outdoors and marine life. My family has been crabbing and casting for fun and food for generations.
Crabbing has been therapeutic for me and gave me an outlet when I quit smoking, helping me become a healthier person in more ways than one.
Then, when a friend started a Facebook page called “Casual Crabbing with Tia” and posted photos of my adventures, people started asking to come along and flocking to the docks.
Within a few hours, those who start off as strangers end up as friends, and I love getting to share my passion with others.” Tia

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the events that destroyed the area known as Black Wall Street. The event and what occurred today is known as the Tulsa Race Massacre.
Before the "Tulsa Race Massacre", Greenwood, aka "Black Wall Street" had hundreds of thriving businesses and an economy that was so self-sufficient, the dollar circulated within the community 19 times before it left!
Michelle Brown-Burdex, the program coordinator of the Greenwood Cultural Center, is on Traveling Culturati with the history of Greenwood, the massacre and destruction of Black Wall Street, and how the city is commemorating the 100th anniversary.

The Culture Report – The Underground Railroad To MEXICO!
“Culture is forever changing and reflecting what’s happening in the society and with its people. It can be born from the arts, music, food and sometimes politics and strife.”
Accounts of the Underground Railroad are often told of enslaved African Americans fleeing the south and heading north to freedom. But, did you know there was an Underground Railroad trail or trails that led to Mexico? My guest this week, Russell Contreras, a Justice and Race reporter at Axios covering the policies and agencies at the heart of the administration of justice and how it impacts people of color sheds some light on that very trail and how Mexico was a place the enslaved sought for freedom.

All That Jazz
Thursday Apr 29, 2021
Thursday Apr 29, 2021
April is Jazz Appreciation Month so we’re closing out the month with Jazz Festivals, Jazz Cities and Best Jazz Spots around the world. When I thought to do this topic, I immediately thought of Maxx Myrick, an award winning air personality, radio programmer and content expert with over 40 years of experience providing content on local and national levels. And, a lover of Jazz.
One Jazz Festival we’ve traveled for, for many years is the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in Cape Town South Africa. I have the pleasure of chatting with Billy Domingo, Chief Operating Officer of the CTIJF and is one of South Africa’s most respected and successful entertainment industry professionals. Domingo’s résumé includes a true Who’s Who of show business, having worked with some of the world’s most famous artists and biggest stage productions in the world.
The Culture Report – The National Museum of African American Music Part 2
“Culture is forever changing and reflecting what’s happening in the society and with its people. It can be born from the arts, music, food and sometimes politics and strife.”
Music is one of the most influential and immersive cultural experiences. I’m excited to chat with Tuwisha D. Rogers-Simpson, Vice President of Brand and Partnerships at the National Museum of African American Music. The National Museum of African American Music, located in Nashville, Tennessee showcases the musical genres inspired, created, or influenced by African-Americans. I can’t wait to visit the museum and explore the seven galleries, more than 25 interactive touchpoints, and more than 1500 artifacts!
